History of the Marburg Show.
At Marburg we are proud of our facilities and the traditional features associated with this organisation as a Show Society, many of which have been part of the way of life for several generations of hard working people in this district. Marburg district is bordered by Rosewood, Fernvale, Minden and Ipswich and has over 1200 inhabitants and growing steadily. Each year there is a multitude of activities that are staged to promote the many different facets of community life and as well to give the patrons a chance to be involved in the largest community function staged in this locality.
The 2007 show was described as very successful. An Illawarra Dairy Cattle Feature show attracted 63 exhibits from many areas of South East Queensland. The winning Illawarra and Supreme Dairy Cow was the NSW bred cow Meadow Haven Myra from the heartland of the Illawarra District at Kiama and owned by Jock Johnston from Imbil Qld. There was also a Bradford Promotional show with some very fine exhibits. The sponsorship of the 2007 show was again great with local and nearby business once again supporting the success of the Annual Show.
Horse events such as the Show Jumping and Hack Events returned on the scene to provide a very fine spectacle.
The 23 Mini trotters were a highlight with children aged between 6 and 16 years age competing with their favourite ponies for some wonderful prizes.
New to Marburg Show in 2007 were Poetry classes in the Schoolwork. These were open to high school children for the first time.
Entries were received from as far away as Beaudesert.
There were some very interesting German heritage exhibits in the Challenge Quilts.
The Woodturning and Woodcraft Section once again received some fine exhibits.
The Cookery section saw an increase in some classes thanks to the increased sponsorship from the local cricket club in memory of the late Ms Tracey Hauschildt. Competition was tough in the chocolate cake section. There were also increased numbers in the schoolchildren's cookery classes. The Fine Arts/Paintings had the most exhibits ever at a Marburg show.
The Photography Section had 550 entries. The Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Produce were up in numbers and a credit to all involved in these sections considering the drought. The Crazy Creations (fruit and vegs) drew a lot of attention from the visiting show patrons. The Honey Section displayed quality exhibits. The Needlework, Craft, Spinning and Weaving Pavilion overflowed to capacity with many diverse and interesting exhibits. Finding space to display the large quilt exhibits was a challenge.
Considering the very dry season, the Horticultural Section was a blaze of colour with some beautiful, well-represented individual exhibits of roses and vases of mixed flowers. Marburg Show in 2007 had the most rose exhibits of all Agricultural shows in the West Moreton District area. The Pot Plant section at Marburg continues to grow in numbers. This year there were some fine exhibits of Zygo cactus in bloom.
The Caged Bird Pavilion was a great sight of colourful birds. The Poultry Section was slightly down in numbers but the quality of exhibits remained high. On Friday the Local Horse and Dog events were judged. Numbers were slightly down but the day was considered to be highly successful.
Saturday saw the Dairy and Beef Cattle and Sheep judged along with the Young Judges and Young handler's competition.
A busy ring program of horse events. The Ute competition once again was a great spectacle with 60 exhibits.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family and friends to this venue and if you have any suggestions we would like to hear from you.
