Marburg and District Agricultural and Industrial Association INC
Often referred to as Marburg Show Society is located at 45-54 Queen Street Marburg Queensland 4346.
Marburg is 50km west of Brisbane and easily accessible by road.
The Marburg Show is one of 130 Agricultural shows conducted under the auspices of the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies in Queensland. Marburg Show reports to the West Moreton Brisbane Valley Sub Chamber of the main Association. There are 10 shows in this sub chamber. Marburg participates in the inter zone competitions such as Miss Showgirl, Rural Ambassador, Quilts across QLD, Rich Fruit cake Competition and Ute Muster. The finals of these sections are held during the Brisbane Royal Show annually in August.
This association is administered by a Management Committee of approximately 40 who are elected at the Annual General Meeting in September each year. All of the Executive work in an honorary capacity. Approximately 100 volunteers help at the Annual Show and other events such as the Christmas Carnival and dances.
Due to growth and business in the Association, Sub Committees have been formed from within the Management Committee members. These Sub Committees oversee specific aspects relevant to their function to ensure the smooth operation to meet the required standards as set by Council and government. They are accountable to and report to the main Committee monthly.
Our committee members take great pride in what they offer the community.
There is a great deal of fellowship, healthy debate and fun as people work together for the benefit of the community. One of the most notable activities has been the commitment of successive hardworking committees of the Association to continuously stage weekly dances since the 1940’s. Many people come to Marburg dances from nearby and some regularly attend from Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Over the years the main hall has been increased in size, different Pavilions built and a Grandstand fundraised for over a period of 3 years and subsequently built in 1993.
The Marburg Showgrounds and buildings are available for hire for functions. The main hall is used for weddings, family reunions, meetings and other functions.
The Home of Local Cricket
Marburg Cricket Club was formed in 1916 with an agreement with Marburg Show Society to use the grounds.
Three wickets were developed and laid, two turf wickets in the show ring and a junior concrete wicket behind, called the Gary Rohl Oval. These wickets are still being used today.
The wickets are kept in immaculate condition and are an asset to the Showgrounds.
The Marburg Cricket Club is part of the West Moreton Cricket Association and participates in both junior and senior competitions.
Games are generally played on Saturday's with training being conducted on the grounds during the week, with the club having access to cricket nets on the showgrounds. The junior age groups are, under 10, 12, 14 and 16.
For information on sign on days or training times please contact Sue Haag, Secretary Marburg Cricket Club on 54609303.
